Whatever happened to complex pleasures?

Today's people seem, at best, ignorant of the immense pleasure effort-requiring enjoyment can bring. People simply don't have time for this type pleasure anymore. They can't waste more than 3 minutes on a song more than they can in having sex. It's all about getting it done. They want it delievered at their doorsteps and with an "easy-to-open" case. And imagine me realising this. Me, who always thought it was just plain common sense that if one enjoys something one will want it to last. It seems clear that most people wouldn't agree. At least they wouldn't act on it. I mean, they actually consider foreplay a price to pay to have sex. And they also do, although not admiting to it, consider sex the price to pay to have a "slightly better than a Jenna-Jameson-provided " orgasm. I, in a contrast with most people, as it seems, actually enjoy having sex, and, kill me on the spot for heresy, it's build-up.

It is clear that this post has a trigger. They all do, but some are more specific than others. This one's very specific. It's Gustav Mahler's 9th Symphony. I just listened to it for the first time and, just to give you an idea, I felt I was flying at certain parts of it. Trully amazing. The thing is that this kind of enjoyment, the pleasure it was and in a way still is, is of a different breed of pleasure than those we have in our daily life. It's higher. That doesn't mean it's better than a good expreesso and a cigarrette or than a good wine-drenched dinner with friends. It just means you can't compare them.

The thing about this kind of pleasure is that it's hard work. It is really, it's not easy to fully perceive all the different things that are going on at the same time, and by far harder still is letting your body interpret the music in whatever way it sees fit. But the really hard part is letting it touch you. Actually touch you.

I thought it didn't even need saying, but from what I see of this "Fast pleasure - get what you expect and at a reasonable price"-type society, i'll state what should be obvious. The difficulty to achieve the pleasure enhances it.
